Conceived in the heart and mind of a transitioning 21-year Army Veteran, LTC Marie Grimmer, with a desire to create a company that would bring together highly-skilled former military and civilian members of the DoD. Marie knew that the right team of industry experts, innovative cutting-edge technology solutions, and a true understanding of the impacts of technology on defense operations could successfully fill identified operational gaps.
Founding President and Chief Executive Officer, Marie Grimmer, observed many times throughout her military career that great cutting-edge technology couldn’t be successfully fielded to Soldiers because of overly burdensome and crushing acquisition timelines compounded with continuous failures to effectively integrate Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership and Education, Personnel, Facilities, and now Policy (DOTMLPF-P) requirements in a timely fashion throughout the acquisition and fielding process. Historically, by the time these key processes were completed, the technology was ‘new’ to the Soldier, but no longer cutting-edge. Software cycle speeds and the dependency on software-defined environments only exacerbated this problem.
In 2007, the Army Chief Information Officer briefed Marie’s pre-command class on the commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Joint Network Node (JNN) technology, which was fielded well ahead of the DOTMLPF-P process to meet urgent operational needs. Unfortunately, fielded units were dependent on expensive field service representatives and contractor teams because training and maintenance manuals were not developed and operational employment doctrine did not exist outside of the current fight. Soldiers were not able to do what they do best—expertly employ, operate, and maintain their equipment. This was an extremely taxing lesson on our Soldiers.
In 2009, with encouragement from Marie’s mom, sister, and long-time advisor Alan Williams, GTOi was born.
Our motto, “Endless Possibilities” stems from Marie and Alan’s fascination with space and space travel. Wernher Von Braun’s famous quote, “I have learned to use the word ‘impossible’ with the greatest caution” inspires all that we do. Our motto is the catalyst behind our innovative solutions and our pledge to operationalize new technologies and possibilities for our Warfighters and all our customers.
